Arrived in Tokyo after spending the weekend in Vancouver. Good to see some old friends. We stayed in Kits at Dan Morrison’s place and slept on an air mattress that slowly deflated throughout the night. Spent the rest of the time walking around in the rain looking for a bathing suit for Fab. Sweet irony. We also met a couple of new additions to the Vancouver family, Jay and Melissa’s darling child Maya and Dan’s delightful girlfriend Naomi. Oh yes, and I destroyed eveyone in cards and walked away with my 9th and 10th continental championships.
The flight to Toyko was like some kind of strange time warp in which the sun never went down and I never fell asleep. Watched ”Music and Lyrics” three times on the plane, mostly because of the song “Pop Goes My Heart”. We flew over the Bering Straight and Fab hogged the extra seat while sleeping most of the way.
After disembarking at Narita Airport, we met up Mike and were briskly whisked off to Shinjuku. We slammed a couple of Super Gent beers on the train, ate peanuts and talked about what we wanted to do whilst in Tokyo. Jen met us at the Meidaimai train station and led us to their impossibly small flat.
After dropping off our bags at the flat, which coincidently is shaped like a small RV, we walked through a park and watched kids practice a series of baseball drills. We went for dinner at a Okonomiyaki place in Shimokitazawa, talked about mutual friends back home, and drained a couple more beers. After dinner, we walked back home and passed out on the hard wood floor, finally succumbing to the jet lag.
